The largest ski area is Feldberg, with 16 slopes and 33 kilometers of pistes. A ski bus stops right outside the door, and the ski area is a ten-minute drive away. A smaller, less crowded alternative is Todtnauberg, with four lifts and 13 kilometers of pistes, also reachable in ten minutes. Both ski areas offer beautiful cross-country skiing trails in close proximity.
What hiking trails are there in the Black Forest?
There are easy, sunny panoramic hiking trails, children's trails with puzzle stations, and challenging day hikes with significant elevation gain around Todtnauberg and Feldberg. You can start your hike right from the doorstep of the Alte Forsthaus: up the local mountain, Hasenhorn – or comfortably glide up on the chairlift and enjoy the panoramic views from the top. There are countless hiking options from Todtnau to Todtnauberg, to the waterfall with its Blackforest Line suspension bridge, or even all the way to Feldberg.
Where can I cycle?
The Todtnau Bikepark downhill track for adrenaline junkies is right on your doorstep, accessible by chairlift. From Todtnau, you can easily explore the entire Black Forest by bike, with routes of varying difficulty and gradient.
What are some nearby sights to visit?
The suspension bridge at the Todtnau Waterfall, Lake Titisee and Lake Schluchsee are easily accessible, but day trips to Europa-Park Rust or to the Rhine Falls and to Basel are also possible from the Old Forester's Lodge.
What are the attractions for children?
Children's hiking trails can be found at Hasenhorn, Todtnauberg, Feldberg, and in Breitnau. Little ones can wander from station to station without realizing how far they've covered, while adults can enjoy the panoramic views. The Todtnau summer toboggan run is right on the doorstep, and boat trips on Lake Titisee or Lake Schluchsee, as well as visits to the Steinwasen, Tatzmania, or Europa-Park amusement parks, are also nearby.
